The staging game
Nothing goes from apartment straight to truck. Boxes stage at the base of the stairs while one mover shuttles flights and another loads: nobody climbs empty-handed or waits at the truck. On an hourly move, this choreography is the difference between five hours and seven.
What you can do before the crew arrives
- Pack in small boxes. A half-full large box of books beats a full one on flight three: keep every box liftable by one person.
- Clear the stairwell: mats, plants, the neighbor's bike. Every trip passes every obstacle.
- Prop the doors and warn the neighbors, especially in buildings with shared entries.
- Reserve curb space directly outside: a 50-foot carry after three flights adds up fast.
The big furniture question
